Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of Abu Dhabi’s first Hindu temple, the largest in the Middle East, represents a significant milestone for the Indian community in the region. The temple, sprawling over 27 acres and standing at a majestic 108 feet, has been constructed at a cost exceeding ₹ 700 crore. This momentous event not only signifies the deepening cultural ties between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but also serves as a symbol of the strong relationship between the two nations.
During his two-day visit to the UAE, PM Modi took the opportunity to praise UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his pivotal role in making the temple a reality. The President’s decision to donate the land for the temple’s construction during their meeting in 2015 was hailed by PM Modi as a testament to his love for India and his visionary leadership for the UAE’s future.
The BAPS Hindu temple, built by the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), is located in Abu Mreikhah, near Al Rahba. The inauguration was marked by a ceremony that commenced with the consecration of the idols. One of the most striking features of the temple is its seven shikhars (spires), each representing one of the seven emirates of the UAE. These shikhars house idols of several deities, including Lord Ram, Lord Shiv, Lord Jagannath, Lord Krishna, Lord Swaminarayan (considered a reincarnation of Lord Krishna), Tirupati Balaji, and Lord Ayappa. This unique architectural design not only celebrates the cultural diversity of the UAE but also highlights the unity and harmony among different cultures and religions.
PM Modi’s visit to the UAE is a testament to the growing strategic partnership between the two countries. This visit marks his seventh to the UAE since 2015, reflecting the importance of the relationship. During his visit, PM Modi addressed the World Government Summit in Dubai, where he praised Dubai’s emergence as the epicenter of the global economy. He also commended UAE President Al Nahyan for his visionary leadership, describing him as “a leader with vision and resolve.”
Following the inauguration of the temple, PM Modi is set to travel to Doha for a bilateral meeting with the Qatari leadership. This visit comes on the heels of Qatar’s release of eight Indian navy veterans from prison, a move seen as a significant diplomatic victory for India.
In conclusion, the inauguration of Abu Dhabi’s first Hindu temple is not just a cultural milestone but also a testament to the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and the UAE. The temple stands as a beacon of unity and harmony, reflecting the shared values and traditions that unite the two nations.
